Reading blog #6 Visual Analysis

Main points

  • Visual rhetoric is how visual images communicate and create an argument designed to move a specific audience to think or act in a specific way.
  • Everywhere we go we are confronted with visual images that aim to persuade us
  • Reaching people's assumptions has to do with their levels of education, race, gender, and ethnicity. (Know your target demographic)
  • Examine main image or text that captures your attention.
  • Reflect on what draws your attention to the image or text. Is there something shocking or startling with the photo or text.
  • Ethos in writing is meant to convey to the sponsors wish to be perceived
  • Pathos in writing has to do how the images appeal to your emotions
  • Logos in an ad has to do with the logic of the image or text
Quotes
"As a news magazine, not an entertainment magazine such as People, Time aims to reach broad, educated, even affluent, readership interested in keeping up with the current events."
This is a good understanding on how a magazine targets their audiences. They know that the educated keeps up the current events rather than an entertainment.
"Something about the use of color, the size of image or text, or the that catches your eye."
This quote enables for people to reflect on why you choose that text or photo.
"Formulate what you think the ad's argument, and point out specific details that seem to support it."
This quote can be used to support and strengthen the argument.

Question
