P.w: What are some pre-reading strategies 1/31

I personally read in brief description of the book and genre to see if fits my interest. Other pre reading techniques involve looking at the chapter titles and analyzing what they mean with the story. I also ask any questions if any of the parts did not make sense or something that interested me. I gather information on what to expect and create predictions. Look at the images or pictures in the cover and author's background. I also look online or back the book of people's reviews.

P.W: What is Academic writing?

Academic writing is analyzing readings in order to use them for your essay. Templates are helpful in improving your essay and sentence structure. People analyze quotes and use "they say" as a way to understand the audience without seeming out of place. The writer needs to understand why should someone care about your topic. Usually being engaging or interesting allows for the reader to get hooked. Also we need to take into consideration of their views and questions.

They say/I say Introduction Intro, Chapter 3 and 7 Main points Intro - Writers master basic moves taken from successful writers. One basic move is using templates that structure and create your own writing. Using templates enable you to use them for practice and how to use them for critical thinking. Some examples are "Many Americans assume that __" or "On the one hand, ____. On the other hand, _____." "They say" presents the ideas towards a group rather than "I say" which expresses your own ideas to yourself. The person also has to enter the conversation with the other person's opinions and views in mind. Chapter 3 - Quoting others gives credibility to your claim or argument which makes it precise and just. Some people quote too little and some overquote. Choose quotation wisely and see if they can help to your text. Explain the quotation on what it means, what they are and how they relate to your text. Chapter 7 - This chapter explore...

FIRST WEEK BACK

1.  My first week back has been reasonable with all my classes. My main challenge for this semester is to not procrastinate and get side tracked by distractions. I have to focus and put my attention on my classes in order for me to succeed. I anticipate in all my classes because I am always looking forward to learning new things. Every semester is different and allows for me to grow as a person.

Quotes with response "Every piece of academic writing begins with a question about the way works, and the best questions lead you to rich, complex insights that others can learn from and build on." I find this quote interesting because I've never been the type of person who questions but looks for answers. It made me realize that questioning leads into finding those answers. \ "As you can see, analysis involves more than simply disassembling or dissecting someth...

Introduction and syllabus

The syllabus states the activities and assignments throughout the semester. I've actually had a book club back in high school which we discussed the themes and plot. We also noted the important events that occurred in the book and presented our individual opinions of the book. Basically similar to the book club this year. The English class last year presents the same stance of substantiality such as women's rights, the environment, and social rights. The only difference is that this class focuses on one topic that the student is most confident on. I actually prefer this method because I'll be able to go into more depth and detail with the 5 essays. My name is Francis Diza and I am a second year student majoring in Marketing with the intent of switching majors. I currently live in San Leandro and commute to school by Bart. I still have no clue on what particular major but I'm leaning towards Kinesiology. The Biology class during Freshmen year captured my attention tow...
